Happy Cabernet Day!

  1. Cabernet Sauvignon can trace its lineage to Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. This was unknown until 1996, when a research group at UC Davis first used DNA to identify different varieties and their offspring.

  2. At 720,000 acres, Cabernet Sauvignon is planted more than any other wine grape in the world!

  3. Tannins in Cabernet Sauvignon can act as fat and protein “scrapers” on your tongue. This is why Cabernet Sauvignon pairs so well with steak- the high levels of proteins and fats in steak requires high tannin wines.

  4. The most expensive bottle of wine ever sold was a six liter Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon 1992 for $500,000.

  5. Many Sommeliers believe that a Cabernet Sauvignon needs at least 10-13 years to age before it’s reached its peak (but only if it’s stored correctly)!

We’re drinking Leidenfrost Vineyards’ 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon today- join us! This wine is rich and full bodied, with a soft tannin. The lingering fruit flavors in this dry Cabernet are sure to make this wine one of your favorites! It pairs well with everything from dark chocolate to red meats. This Cabernet Sauvignon can be purchased for just $20.00 a bottle.

Leidenfrost Vineyards has had a strong presence at the Finger Lakes Wine Festival for 25 years, but they’ve been making delicious wine long before that! The Leidenfrost family has been growing grapes and making wine in the Finger Lakes since 1947. Considered one of the most premier plots for growing premium wine grapes in the Finger Lakes, Leidenfrost Vineyards is located less than a 25 minute drive from the Festival grounds in Hector.
